There are a few primary differences, such as: the red velcro tabs have smaller sections of red on the real ones, and no penetrating holes at the tip. The counterfeit ones have an entire extra row of holes that go through the fabric, and the red portion is thicker. If you are sight-impaired, it is easiest to feel the tip of the non-velcro side and feel for the rows.
