Will the Mutated U.K. Coronavirus Strain Lead to More Deaths?

Today, U.S. pharmaceutical company Moderna said that its coronavirus vaccine seems to be effective against the new coronavirus variants that have emerged in the United Kingdom and South Africa. Overall, that’s good news, especially in light of the scary headlines about the U.K. strain you might have seen over the weekend. “In addition to spreading more quickly, it also now appears that there is some evidence that the new variant […] may be associated with a higher degree of mortality,” U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said during a press briefing on Friday, warning that the strain would potentially lead to more deaths. And while that sounds alarming and should be taken seriously, several experts are not convinced yet, as Robert Roy Britt reports on the Coronavirus Blog.
